Weekly Hip Stretch - Psoas Muscles Rejoice!
Welcome the first of a new series of hip stretches. We’re starting with the hip flexors because almost everyone has tight hip flexors. You may not. But, if you do, you know it.
This stretch focuses particularly on the psoas – the granddaddy of hip flexors. It’s a big muscle that can cause all kinds of havoc if it’s tight or not functioning properly. This stretch is one part of keeping it healthy and well-balanced.
Illuminate me…
Because most of us sit all day our hip flexors stay flexed (or short) for long periods of time and can get used to staying that way.
Stretching helps remind our muscles they can “open” to their full length and helps our hips maintain their full range of motion.
Try it…
For this stretch you’ll need a yoga block or something that’s solid and about 4-6 inches high (like a really big book).
This is a modification of a stretch from last year (see the original here). However, this one is more intense.
In the video I give some modifications, especially for those with tight hips or a tight low back. So, please, go slowly and listen to your body.
Try it and let us know what you think. Contact us here. We’d love to hear from you
Wishing you happy hips!
